I'm just starting to figure out how to use the documentation features, but I'm having a hard time to get it to work as I want/expect it to, so if someone can help me out I'd be grateful. If it's not possible to do this currently, I guess you can see it as a feature request and I'll have to use some solution outside of UXPin in the meantime.
- How can I reorder points in the documentation? I can't seem to change the number of a point once it's in place to make the numbering make sense? And removing points just leaves "holes" in the numbered sequence instead of renumbering the existing points.
- How can I hide documentation points for elements that are current not displayed? For example, if I want to add a documentation description of something in a popup panel I only want that to be shown when that panel is visible. Now the documentation number and frame is shown even when the element it refers to is hidden?
- How can I show the documentation sidebar while the prototype simulation is active? It currently seems to disable all interaction when opening the documentation for some reason?
I hope UXPin team is hearing us and put these feedback to internal ticket system pls.
Hey Lars!
The suggestions Linus provided are great ideas!
I agree with you that it would be useful to reorder the numbering and have the option to renumber the existing points while removing them. Additionally, as the documentation is in another tab, the interaction does not work there, which is also not working for hiding the documentation.
And no worries, It’s all added now to our backlog, and in case of any news, I'll let you know!
Like @Lars Gäfvert, I would also like for the Documentation module to become better, and support his suggestions.
Regarding @Anna Kiedrowska's question of autonumbered comments becoming a problem for documentation delivered: A simple take on this is to let designers number items manually (edit the number that UXPin creates). Obviously, this may result in duplicates and holes in the sequence. But it also allows for more structured numbering, using multiple digits and letters, which may correspond to references in other documentation (for documentation-savvy occasions).
To automate the process a little, a separate function could (re)set the numbers based on item/element/layer position in the layer hierarchy. This would at least give us (designers) better control over the numbers.
